MATTACHINE New Orleans Dance Party w/ John Cameron Mitchell & Amber Martin
Saturday Mar 10, 2012 10:00PM-02:30AM
in New Orleans
Wolffhouse presents...
New York City's semi-legendary dance party MATTACHINE thrown & DJ'ed by John Cameron Mitchell (HEDWIG AND THE ANGRY INCH, SHORTBUS), PJ DeBoy & Paul Dawson (SHORTBUS) and performance artist Amber Martin (AMBER ALERT).
For four years, MATTACHINE has been packing the dance floor and overflowing the West Village sidewalks at the oldest gay bar on the continent, Juliusthe very watering hole where in 1966 members of the MATTACHINE SOCIETY, the countrys first gay rights organization (founded by Harry Hay in LA in 1950), demanded a drink to fight against the citys no service for known homosexuals law. If not for their Sip-In, there would not have been a Stonewall.
Last year, MATTACHINE hit the road with events in San Francisco, Denver, Los Angeles and Portland, "promoting ethical homosexual culture" across America to remind folks that queer is more than Gaga, skinny jeans and texting while sort-of dancing.
Like JCM says, ALL music is dance music!!
Dress: Up and Come: Out!
$10 at the door.
