Since the flooding occurred in mid-August in Baton Rouge, Denham Springs, and the surrounding areas, locals here in New Orleans and Southeast Louisiana have been making donations, participating in clean-up crews, and reaching out in various ways to support those affected by the flooding.
Our sister church MCC of Baton Rouge was greatly impacted by the flooding, with at least 30 congregants who were displaced from their homes, and Rev. Keith Mozingo, their amazing pastor whose own home and possessions were damaged.
After the initial flooding, we organized a few work crews, and we provided some initial donations. However, since most of the affected congregants did not live in a designated "flood zone" and did not have flood insurance, we are going to support our friends in Baton Rouge through some fundraising efforts.
Please stop by, this Saturday evening, September 17th, from 6 - 8 pm at the Country Club at 634 Louisa St, New Orleans, LA 70117. $20 is the suggested donation for entry, but any support or donation amount is much appreciated. Free appetizers, cash bar, and a 50/50 raffle will be available. And we encourage you to stay afterwards to enjoy a delicious dinner, or take a dip in the outdoor pool.
Rev. Elder Tony Freeman, Director of the Office of Church Life and Health, will also present denominational awards for some of the award recipients in the South Gulf Coast Network.
