Please come by to celebrate Independent Bookstore Day with us and show your support for this amazing movement. We’ll have fun together along with stimulating activities all day long. And, we are also featuring some exclusive literary-themed art and gift items you will want to have to remember this special day.
Independent bookstores are my first stops in any new city, a quick check of the pulse in any literary community. They are ports in the storm, passageways to magical lands, escape hatches out of bad moods. Even when I don't think I need a book, because the stack beside my bed is teetering toward the ceiling, I always need a bookstore. And then I usually need a book, too.” -Emma Straub, 2017 Independent Bookstore Day "Author Ambassador"
Octavia Books, Garden District Book Shop, and Tubby & Coo’s Mid-City Book Shop and Maple Street Book Shop are celebrating Independent Bookstore Day in New Orleans. Each store is planning special activities; and together we are offering the chance to win $100 in gift certificates for book lovers who visit all four participating New Orleans bookstores as part of a fun, city-wide scavenger hunt. The four stores have also joined together to give away a limited number of Blackbird Letter Press New Orleans City Notebooks (printed in Louisiana) to customers who purchase who spend $25 or more on Saturday, May 13th.
Over 400 independent bookstores are celebrating Independent Bookstore Day. In New Orleans, we have our own special day to celebrate, 2 week later in deference to Jazz Fest (where you will find us operating the book tent).
