Cafe du Monde

Beign-yay!
Cafe du Monde is truly a New Orleans original, serving up cafe-au-lait and beignets since 1862. Set it high on the list of things to see, just be sure to grab plenty of napkins, you have been warned!

One of the three "Must-Do's" in New Orleans

The whole world comes here (maybe that's why it's called Café of the World in French). Dating from the Civil War era (1862), this institution is still going strong. Every visitor is told he MUST try the beignets (French doughnuts) and café au lait at this coffee house, located across from Jackson Square. (The other 2 "must-do's" are riding the St. Charles Ave. Streetcar in the American Sector, and walking down rowdy and lewd Bourbon Street-- and exploring the French Quarter, of course.)
