The New Orleans Dyke Bar History Project is a group of next-generation women and friends working on a project to make the stories of the elder generations available to our generation. We are conducting oral history (herstory) interviews about these bars and of New Orleans lesbian life in the 1970s and 80s generally to create an archive and an original theatrical performance. The performance piece asks, what happened to these bars? What purpose did they serve? Dyke bars are going out of business all over the country. We are interested in why they went away but also what we lost with them–community space, organizing space––and how we might get it back.

The Country Club is proud to host this exciting event. On this night, a portion of Country Club sales will go to the Dyke Bar History Project.
So, JOIN US! And, help raise money to continue this research and watch it gather and grow into a rich and vital historical resource for queer New Orleanians and a fabulous 2015 theatrical production!
We'll be listening to music of that lovely era when dyke bars dappled our beloved New Orleans and we may even get to hear some story clips by the women of that gay ol' time!
For drinks we'll have:
$2 special LAVENDER MENACE shots & cocktails (drink 'em up, because all the proceeds from these go to the Project)
$3 well cocktails & $3 domestic canned beers for ladies
Every Thursday is Ladies Night at the Country Club-- all welcome!
